In the world of design, understanding photography is essential. At NIDJ, students from the Textile and Apparel Design Department had the opportunity to take a photography course, where they learned how to master DSLR techniques, including camera settings such as ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. This course allowed students to explore creative photography skills, capturing everything from portraits to fashion shots, both in outdoor and studio settings. The final project was an exhibition where their stunning images were showcased, highlighting the importance of photography in design and offering a platform for students to express their creative visions.
Before snapping any pictures, students were taught the key steps and techniques for setting up their shots.

Photography can also help students come up with creative ideas for their projects. By taking photos of interesting things, people, and moments, students can create mood boards to inspire their designs. NIDJ provides students with DSLRs to use during the course. They can take photos in different settings, from busy markets to people working at various times of the day and night. They also learned to use studio equipment like lights, triggers, and soft boxes for studio photoshoots.
What makes photography so fascinating is how it allows us to share our views and communicate without using words. The final project for the course was an exhibition, where students showcased their work. The event was attended by students, teachers, and staff from all departments.
Here are a few photos taken by the students in the NID Assam Textile and Apparel Design Department, both in outdoor settings and in the studio.
