NSDC × NID × SIB Project
Empowering Future Designers Through Skill in a Box

As the Head of the Textile and Apparel Department at NID Assam, I am privileged to contribute to the NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) × NID × SIB collaboration, a unique initiative focused on nurturing creativity, skill, and innovation in the field of fashion design.
Through Skill in a Box (SIB), a private venture working closely with NSDC, we aim to make fashion design education more accessible, industry-oriented, and impactful. Our MoU between NSDC and NID Assam ensures that students receive a structured, professional training experience aligned with national skill development standards.

My Role in the Project

As a faculty mentor and design professional, I lead and teach fashion design modules under this initiative. My approach emphasizes:

  • Design Foundations → Principles of design, color, form, and aesthetics.

  • Technical Skills → Garment construction, pattern making, draping, and textile exploration.

  • Creative Development: Fashion illustration, styling, and portfolio building.

  • Sustainability & Crafts: Integrating eco-friendly practices and regional craft traditions.

  • Industry Readiness: Guiding students to understand the global fashion ecosystem while preparing them for real-world challenges.

Impact
This project is not only about teaching fashion—it’s about building confidence, nurturing creativity, and developing employable skills for the next generation of designers. By merging academic rigor (NID) with national skill-building (NSDC) and entrepreneurial innovation (SIB), we are creating pathways for students to shine in the fashion industry.

Vision Ahead
The NSDC × NID × SIB partnership is a step toward a future where design education meets inclusivity and accessibility. As part of this initiative, my mission is to inspire young learners to think beyond trends and use fashion as a tool of expression, empowerment, and change.
